AGFT Donation Ceremony

Chairman of the Asahi Glass Foundation of Thailand by Mr. Taku Ohashi together with the management of the foundation and executives of AGC Flat Glass (Thailand) Public Company Limited donated money to support educational projects for five leading graduate institutions in Thailand, to Professor Dr. Polkit Sangvanich, Dean of the Faculty of Science Chulalongkorn University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sathaporn Chuepeng, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Sriracha Kasetsart University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suwit Saetia, President King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Somyot Kaitwanidvilai, Dean School of Engineering King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang and Mr. Hemmarat Wachirahatthapong Library Director of Burapha University together with acdemic professors receiving a grant of 1 million baht per educational institution, a total of 5 million baht. A donated money ceremony was held at AGC Flat Glass (Thailand) Public Company Limited, Headquarters. and Samut Prakan factory.

Group of professors also made a visit Thailand’s first float plant and the processed glass plant accompanied by Mr. Najutha Surasonthi, Factory Manager of AGC Flat Glass (Thailand) PLC.

Asahi Glass Foundation Thailand was established in 1984 by Asahi Glass Company, Japan, donated the initial money to establish foundation by objective to support education and public charity in Thailand. The foundation was running by Thai Asahi Glass Co., Ltd. a former name of AGC Flat glass (Thailand) PLC.

In the early years, the Foundation supported education by selecting Thai students to study in Japan for the period of 4 months to 1 year. Later in the 1991, the foundation committee at that time wanted to increase the opportunity and number of scholarship recipients has considered changing the support from sending Thai students to Japan to providing scholarships to undergraduate students in Science, who were nominated by university as being eligible for scholarship. This is to expand opportunities and number of students to get support.

From the founding year of the foundation to the present Asahi Glass Foundation of Thailand has run more than 540 scholarships, worth more than 7.1 million baht.

For today supporting educational activities, this is another change by leverage from individual scholarship to a wider common education aid as structures or equipments reaching by students and staffs for long terms.

Since the founding year and this year event, Asahi Glass Foundation of Thailand has offered fund to the project more than 12 million baht.
